Netflix reveals the rest of Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Sandman’ cast

12 more actors join Netflix’s highly-anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, making the cast even more star-studded as it is. 

The streaming giant revealed on Wednesday the names pinned to the rest of the characters from the highly-acclaimed comic book series such as Dream’s sisters, Death, Desire, Despair, and a lot more. Here’s the official roll call, with the details of each provided by Gaiman himself:

Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, “Dream’s wiser, nicer, and much more sensible sister.”

Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Dream’s sibling, and the embodiment of “everything you want, whatever you want and whoever you are.”

Donna Preston as Despair, Desire’s twin, Dream’s sister, and “the bleakest of the Endless.”

Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, an “Eighteenth Century occult adventuress and John Constantine’s great-great-great grandmother.”

Niamh Walsh as the young Ethel Cripps, a “betrayed and determined young woman seeking to survive.” Once she grows up, she turns into a master thief and a woman of a hundred identities and a thousand lies, played by Joely Richardson.

David Thewlis as John Dee, Ethel’s dangerous son who was driven mad and is now “out and on a quest for Truth that may destroy the world.” 

Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, a “young woman on a desperate search for her missing brother who soon discovers a connection to Dream that neither of them can escape.”

Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall, “Rose’s best friend and a young widow mourning her husband Hector.”

Sandra James Young as Unity Kincaid, Heiress and Rose’s mysterious benefactor who “spent a century asleep.”

Stephen Fry as Gilbert, “Rose Walker’s debonair protector and A dab hand with a paradox and a sword cane.”

Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven, Dream’s trusted emissary.

These remarkable actors sign on to the series that already announced Tom Sturridge as Dream of the EndlessGwendolyn Christie as Lucifer, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Asim Chaudhry as Cain and AbelCharles Dance as Roderick BurgessVivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, and Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian.

Wonder Woman and Young Avengers’ Allan Heinberg and Dark Knight Trilogy’s David Goyer will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the series alongside Gaiman. 

Gaiman himself has described the upcoming series as “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven.” The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic – and human – mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.

Gaiman shared during an interview with Digital Spy that the series is slated for a release sometime in 2021. However, production delays might push the unreleased date further back. Nonetheless, Gaiman promised that the first season, which will initially include 11 episodes, will be “faithful to the comics.”
