New Star Trek Film in the Works From JJ Abrams and TV Writer Kalinda Vazquez

Heads up, Trekkies! You might just get to see the Enterprise and its crew on the big screen once again as it has recently been confirmed that a new Star Trek movie is in the works.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Seeing as we haven’t seen a Star Trek film since Star Trek Beyond in 2016, fans are curious as to what this movie will be about. However, there isn’t much revealed about this film so far. What we do know, though, is who are the people behind this particular movie.

Through his production company, Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams will be producing. Abrams is no stranger to blockbusters and definitely not to the cinematic side of the Star Trek franchise. After all, he was a producer on Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Star Trek Beyond (2016). He also directed the first two in the trilogy.

Writing the screenplay is Kalinda Vazquez. Vazquez is familiar with the Trek universe as well as she has worked on Star Trek: Discovery. Her other TV credits include being one of the executive producers of Fear of the Walking Dead and writing for shows such as Once Upon a Time, Marvel’s Runaways, Nikita, and Prison Break.

There have been other Star Trek movies that were reported to be in development, but a couple of them have hit road bumps that made their futures uncertain. This includes the idea that Abram and Quentin Tarantino hatched for a Star Trek movie by Mark L. Smith since Tarantino has since left the project. Hopefully, Abrams and Vazquez’s production manages to push through!
