It may actually be for the best.
Netflix recently announced its decision to cancel its Resident Evil series. Due to the show’s underwhelming ratings, the streamer chose not to renew it.
Netflix tried hard to put its own stamp on the zombie franchise. But their version turned out like the other Resident Evil adaptations. The streamer didn’t adopt any plot points from the game. But the series did feature familiar characters like Licker.
The series’ central plot traverses two time periods—2022 and 2036. The first storyline centers on Dr. Wesker’s fraternal twins, Billie and Jade. They are 14 years old and were conceived under questionable circumstances. Jade Wesker struggles to survive in a world overrun by blood-thirsty monsters. This is fourteen years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse.
Although Netflix has a history of scrapping many good shows too soon, this isn’t one of those cases. The cancellation of Resident Evil is justifiable. We say this because it was a poorly developed and executed program. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it was also quite expensive to produce. The ratings didn’t warrant a second season.
The Netflix series received terrible reviews from both critics and fans. This is rare today, as critics’ views and fans’ opinions often contradict each other.
This cancellation doesn’t mean the end of the franchise on Netflix. There’s still Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series. Its story focuses on the franchise’s history. Unfortunately, the four-part series has also received mixed reviews.

We don’t have any complaints about Netflix’s decision to cancel the series. But we do hope that the streaming service will reboot the franchise one day. Maybe they’ll be able to come up with a better way to do it in the future.
