After his life-changing stint as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, the world hasn’t seen much of actor Robert Downey Jr. Well, it looks like that’s about to change real season. Deadline reported that the Avengers star and Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon are joining the ensemble cast of infamous director Christopher Nolan’s latest project, Oppenheimer.
As of late, only Cillian Murphy, who is known to star in other Nolan films such as Dunkirk and Inception, is confirmed to star in the movie. In case you’re out of the loop, Nolan is writing and directing the film that revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who ran the Manhattan Project that led to the invention of the atomic bomb.
There’s no official word yet as to who these Hollywood heavyweights will portray in the movie, so the world will have to wait for further details. The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Damon will play Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project. Downey, on the other hand, will reportedly star as Lewis Strauss.
Strauss is described as the “infamous chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission who initiated hearings that questioned Oppenheimer’s loyalty to the United States and famously had the scientist’s security clearance revoked.” Sounds interesting, right?
Oppenheimer, is described as an “epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.” Given that Nolan has demonstrated his talents for delivering world-changing events in cinematic form, this upcoming project won’t disappoint.
The movie is slated to be released on July 2023, so it will take a while before the world will get to see Nolan’s latest project. Interestingly, the film will be dropping roughly two weeks before the anniversary of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima.
