The Mystery Machine will have one more pooch as a passenger!

Among the many popular cartoons with whom Scooby-Doo has crossed paths in the last 50 years, his latest team-up makes so much sense that we’re actually surprised that it hasn’t happened before.

On Wednesday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog, its newest animated crossover feature that will see the mystery-solving mutt paired up with the purple fearful dog from Nowhere.

In the movie, Scoob’s trusted squad, Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake, and Fred Jones, meets up with Muriel and Eustace Bagge in their backwoods residence in Nowhere, where they find themselves in a scrap with a scary giant cicada and her winged minions which have been wreaking menace across the place. It’s now up to the canine colleagues to piece the puzzle and defeat the insect horde once and for all.

To the boon of any 90s kid who watched both old-school shows, the film is chock-full of those classic tropes that made Scooby-Doo and Courage so memorable. The creatures that lurk around every corner, the constant thrill of hiding inside closed spaces, and of course the endless sprint away from the scary monsters.

“Merging the two worlds in a cohesive manner was one of the most challenging aspects of production,” said Cecilia Aranovich, the film’s director and producer, to SyFy Wire. “But I feel we found the right balance by bringing in the design elements and the color palette from the Courage world, as well as infusing Scooby and the gang with the more over-the-top takes and reactions that are so characteristic of Courage.”

Appearing in many animated series and derivative media, Scooby-Doo debuted in the Hanna-Barbera Productions series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” which premiered in 1969. During its five-decade broadcast history, Scooby-Doo has received two Emmy nominations: a 1989 Daytime Emmy nomination for “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo,” and a 2003 Daytime Emmy nomination for “What’s New, Scooby-Doo.”

Meanwhile, “Courage the Cowardly Dog” ran for four acclaimed seasons from 1999 to 2002 in the popular children’s channel Cartoon Network. Created for television by John Dilworth, the animated show featuring the anthropomorphic dog Courage has also met much critical acclaim and has a couple of animation awards under its belt.
