“Squid Game” May Be Renewed For A Third Season

Last September, an original Korean television series called “Squid Game “was released on Netflix, and it became a total blockbuster hit all over the world. The survival drama created by Hwang Dong-hyuk not only launched its stars to global superstardom but also made on pop culture everywhere. In fact, Squid Game-inspired costumes reigned supreme last Halloween.

Given its massive success, it’s only a matter of time until Netflix gives the green light for its sophomore season. Well, here’s some good news for fans out there: as per Deadline, the show’s creator is currently discussing a possible season two AND three for the show with Netflix.

“I’m in talks with Netflix over Season 2 as well as Season 3. We will come to a conclusion any time soon,” Hwang Dong-hyuk said. This is the first time Dong-hyuk discussed the possibility of a third season for his hit show. He previously shared that he had begun the creative process for its follow-up season.

Unfortunately, Dong-hyuk didn’t share a lot of details about the follow-up seasons, but given the show’s cliff-hanger ending, people will probably get to see some familiar faces in the next couple of seasons.

Given that Squid Game had become the number show on Netflix in 90 countries, and has become its most-watched series ever, it comes as no surprise that Netflix is interested in expanding the story further. The show was even nominated for several Golden Globes awards, cementing its status as a global powerhouse.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you probably know what Squid Game is all about, but basically, it centers around hundreds of financially strapped contestants who signed their lives away in order to play children’s games for a chance at winning a $38 million grand prize. Stakes at the game are high as losing any round would result in instant death.

Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-Joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung. Dong-hyuk came up with the story in 2009, but it wasn’t picked up until Netflix took interest in it.
So far, Netflix has made no announcement as to the next chapter of the story, so fans have to sit tight before they get more Netflix content. Until then, you can see what the fuss is all about by watching Squid Game exclusively on Netflix.
