The Music and Film We Can Look Forward to in 2021

Let’s face it: 2020 was not the best. We were locked down and watching Netflix for months, probably listening to the same songs and watching the same shows over and over again.

And while this brings back memories of that one time we were all in the house for weeks (ahhh, quarantine days), it’s about time we move on from that hellish period.

So, without further ado, here are the music and film we can look forward to this 2021.

FILM

Malcolm & Marie (February 5, 2021)

Fresh off her Emmy Best Actress win, Zendaya looks to impress again with this black-and-white styled film about trouble married couple Malcolm (played by John David Washington) and Marie.  She reunites with writer and director Sam Levinson of Euphoria fame and is expected to grab an Oscar nod for this film, so keep watch for this title on Netflix!

Raya and the Last Dragon (March 5, 2021)

Finally, a Southeast Asian Disney princess. Raya and the Last Dragon is highly anticipated for its portrayal of Southeast Asian culture for the first time ever. Set to release on Disney+, this animated epic features warrior Raya on a quest to save her kingdom by finding the legendary last dragon (who is, by the way, voiced by Awkwafina).

Black Widow (May 7, 2021)

The Avengers’ first leading lady is about to get her own film.  With the character Black Widow almost comically shrouded in complete mystery, MCU fans will be excited to hear that this film will explore Natasha Romanoff’s complicated past. While the film isn’t set to come out until May, trailers and teasers are available online to get the hype going.

MUSIC

Foo Fighters, Medicine at Midnight (February 5, 2021)

Ten records and 25 years later, the Foo Fighters still have a lot to give with their upcoming album Medicine at Midnight. More of a “party album”, as described by Grohl himself, Medicine at Midnight is said to have a pop rock and funky feel that brings a whole lot more energy.

Drake, Certified Lover Boy (TBA)

Get ready for another album chock full of bangers as Drake’s Certified Lover Boy is confirmed for release this year. The album comes as a follow-up to Drake’s 2018 Scorpion and single “Toosie Slide”. And while CLB was expected to drop this January, Drake has cited his surgery and recovery as reasons why he won’t be able to release this month. Guess we’ll just have to wait.

Lana Del Rey, Chemtrails Over the Country Club (March 19, 2021)

Lana Del Rey fans will be thrilled to see the songstress come out with a new album this March 19.  The album, which has already released its title track complete with an Old Hollywood-esque music video, will presumably carry the classic, vintage Lana Del Rey vibe that we all know and love.
