Last November marked the 20th anniversary of the beloved Harry Potter films, and the celebrations are far from over.
For the Potterheads out there, the new year is expected to be a momentous one. First, the original cast is reuniting for an HBO Max Special on January 1. Then, the prequel series Fantastic Beasts will continue in April with the release of The Secrets of Dumbledore. What a great way to start 2022, right?
The Fantastic Beasts Sequel is Back on Track
The trailer for the third film franchise just dropped on December 13 after two years since the release of The Crimes of Grindelwald premiered, and we’ve now got more details about the upcoming movie. Despite the controversies surrounding Johnny Depp’s departure and the backlash author J.K. Rowling faced, and the delays caused by COVID-19, it appears that everything is back on track for the release.
Who is Starring in The Secrets of Dumbledore?
The third film in the franchise stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, and Jude Law as the eponymous wizard. Mads Mikkelsen, who replaces Johnny Depp as the wicked Grindelwald makes his debut in the franchise and is seen holding the Elder Wand in the trailer.
The Tale of Two Legendary Wizards
Warner Bros. describes the new Fantastic Beasts film as “an action-packed cat-and-mouse game of secretive plans, mysteries, and fun twists and turns.” The story follows Professor Albus Dumbledore as he attempts to stop Gellert Grindelwald from taking over the wizarding world, and fans will be pleased to learn that it dives into the “complex, high-stakes relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore.”
Will There be a Fourth Installment?
After the third film, it’s unclear whether the Fantastic Beasts sequel will have a follow-up since the second picture grossed much less than the first. Per Variety, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them garnered $8114 million globally in 2016, while the latter only made $655 million.
