On New Year’s Eve, GMA-7 unveiled a preview reel for “Voltes V: Legacy,” signaling that the live-action adaptation is almost upon us. While it’s been in the pipeline for a while now, even getting some gritty reactions along the way, nothing hypes it up for its imminent debut than getting two thumbs up from TOEI Company, the Japanese animation studio behind the original Voltes V anime.

In a letter to series director Mark Reyes, the original producer of the popular 1970s mecha anime expressed its excitement over the show’s latest featurette and praised the production team for pushing through despite difficulties brought about by the pandemic.

“We are very excited to the news that VOLTES V: LEGACY is being produced in the Philippines,” began TOEI Company’s letter. “Production may be tough under this COVID situation, but this time we wanted to inform you that we were so excited to see the latest promo-reel of the show. We could feel your respect to the original series, and we also thank you for the effort, enthusiasm, and hard work under the COVID situation.”

“Please all take care of yourselves, and we shall continue to look forward to the completion of the show.”

The highly-commended featurette gives an initial glimpse into the main cast, their costumes, and the stunning settings that serve as the setting of the epic battles between Voltes V and the Boazanian forces. It also offers the first-ever look into the final form of the Camp Big Falcon, the Voltes Team’s base, and the Boazanian Skull Ship.

“Voltes V” is a Japanese anime television series produced by TOEI Company and Nippon Sunrise which aired on TV from 1977 to 1978. GMA aired an English dub in 1978, but it was its Filipino re-run from 1990 to the early 2010s that had a major impact on its young viewers.
