And another familiar face is joining the mega-popular Marvel cinematic universe. One of the most powerful beings in the Marvel comics universe is finally making his big-screen debut in the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
British actor Will Poulter of Midsommar fame has been cast as Adam Warlock in the upcoming superhero flick. Deadline reported that Guardians director James Gunn and other Marvel executives conducted a lengthy search to find the right person to play the role, with Poulter and other actors called in to audition for the coveted part. However, Marvel reportedly decided that Poulter’s performance “was too good to pass up.”
Gunn has always been known to ‘strike down false rumors’ about his projects, and the director has confirmed Poulter’s casting himself. “Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter,” Gunn wrote on a Twitter post. “He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks.”
Adam Warlock was first teased in one of the mid-credit sequences of 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the clip, Ayesha, who’s played by the talented Elizabeth Debicki, revealed that she created a being named Adam to destroy Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians following their betrayal.
Created by the iconic Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Roy Thomas, Adam Warlock first appeared as a character only known as Him in 1967’s Fantastic Four #66, then officially debuted as the Warlock in 1972’s Marvel Premiere #1.
So far, fans have been conflicted about Poulter’s addition to the Marvel universe, but to put things into perspective, this is the same studio that cast unlikely actors such as Chris Pratt as a superhero. Production for the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchise is set to begin this November. Fans can see Poulter and the rest of the guardians in action in May 2023.
