Anderson .Paak Brings Charity Concert to His Hometown

Anderson .Paak is giving back to his hometown!

The “Leave the Door Open” singer is bringing his popular .Paak House music festival to his hometown of Oxnard for the first time ever. The single-day charity event, which has been held in Los Angeles for the past three years (excluding last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic), will include activities for kids, gifts, food and community outreach and resources to families in attendance.

Famous celebs are also expected to make appearances, with previous years seeing the likes of Kali Uchis, Ty Dolla $ign, Snoh Aalegra, JoJo, and Jhené Aiko. Though .Paak has no intention of letting any names slip for this year’s lineup.

“This is where I get my favors that people owe me,” .Paak said. “I tell them: The debt is cleared if you show up in Oxnard.” According to the 35-year-old, performers show up free of charge so that proceeds can go straight to charity.

.Paak kickstarted the self-titled festival back in 2017 as a fundraiser to support the nonprofit Brandon Anderson Foundation. The organization, which features the singer’s real name, seeks to uplift and support underserved youth “through access to the arts, supplemental education, unique experiences” and more.

Throughout the years, the festival has grown in size and popularity, attracting more people and eventually becoming something that .Paak is proud of.

“It’s great, because it’s the only thing that really matters at the end – giving back and being with the community,” .Paak told People. “Every time we play the show, and I see the people out there, there’s just no greater feeling. When I hit all these performers, no one’s getting paid, and it’s not through agents. It’s just me hitting people direct and saying, ‘You down to give two, three songs of your time?’ It’s big that they provide their time for people who might not never get to see them play.”

And for him, the event is all about family and fun. “I just want to continue to do this passion that I have for music and for the arts,” he shared. “With .Paak House, I want it to always be fun. I think that’s why I’m able to keep a smile.”
