Billie Eilish Stuns in New Vogue Cover

Edgy teen queen Billie Eilish shocked fans recently with the release of her British Vogue cover, which featured the singer in uncharacteristically bold clothing.

Eilish, known for regularly sporting baggy shirts and pants, can be seen here in pin-up style lingerie and corsets. Her newly debuted blonde ‘do, which broke Instagram records, also made an appearance on the cover.

The shoot comes as a surprise to fans who are more accustomed to seeing the teen superstar in oversized clothing. The reason for such, as Eilish had explained in a 2019 ad with Calvin Klein, was to discourage others from passing judgment on her body.

“Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know? Nobody can be like, ‘Oh, she’s slim-thick, she’s got a flat ass, she’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know,” she stated.

The 19-year-old has long been a strong advocate for body positivity, a sentiment that she furthered in her British Vogue interview. “My thing is that I can do whatever I want,” she said. “It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f**k it — if you feel like you look good, you look good.”

Her choice to implement such a drastic change in wardrobe and image came off a whim. Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, said that Eilish wanted “nothing short of a transformation.”

From her perspective, she knew the decision to pose for such transformative photos would most likely subject her to unfair criticism. “Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore,” Eilish pointed out. “If I am, then I’m proud. Me and all the girls are hoes, and f**k it, y’know? Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that.”

She also emphasized that the amount of skin shown “should not take any respect away from you.”

The shoot, coupled with era-defining blonde locks, is all a set up for Eilish’s upcoming album entitled Happier Than Ever. With the constant evolution that the Grammy-winning singer’s been going through, maybe we can expect more sophisticated and mature tracks to match the look?
