Among the various Billboard No. 1s, music awards, and endorsement deals, BTS member Suga has recently added another achievement under his belt — primary producer of the iconic Samsung Galaxy brand song.
Global electronics company Samsung tapped the 28-year-old producer, songwriter, and rapper to remix their classic brand jingle “Over the Horizon” for their “Unpacked 2021” event, a task that has been given to artists before.
“As a big fan of Galaxy, it was a very special experience,” Suga said in a behind-the-scenes video for Samsung. “I listened to a lot of instrumentals at a young age and I’ve always wanted to make an instrumental track, so the whole process was incredible.”
“It was an honor to work on a song that has been part of Galaxy’s 10-year history,” he added.
For him, the task given by Samsung was all about staying true to the company’s roots.
“I tried to put my own interpretation while keeping the melody largely the same for it to resonate with a broader audience,” he explained. “Everyone knows that it’s the Galaxy theme just by its melody.”
In creating the song, the “Agust D” rapper detailed adding a string solo, a guitar, and more dramatic sounds to achieve the “full grandeur” sound he envisioned for the brand. The result was a pure, heavenly instrumental version of what we know to be “Over the Horizon.”
For both Suga and Samsung, the creation of the remix was meant to evoke an overall feeling of openness. “Like the title, ‘Over the Horizon,’ it’s about going beyond our limits,” Suga said. “No one knows what will unfold, but our dreams make us go farther than ever.”
The project is just the latest of the Samsung x BTS partnership; the group has actively been promoting the brand’s newest products, recently appearing in a Galaxy Z Flip3 commercial.
Samsung’s “Unpacked 2021” event also unveiled a number of new products like the Galaxy Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3, Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Buds2, and much more.
