BTS’ V becomes first Korean act to get 9 million likes on Instagram without having an account

The idol’s concept photo for Butter is the second time he’s made it to record books.

Kim Tae-Hyung, also known as V of K-pop group BTS, is now the first and only Korean idol to have a post surpass 9 million likes on Instagram.

Posted by the group’s official joint account on Instagram, Tae-Hyung’s Butter Concept Photo 1 now boasts a lofty 9,217,300 likes as of writing. Shot to promote their hit single Butter, the snap shows the idol’s grungier side as he poses atop a billiard table wearing a leather jacket, ripped jeans, and several piercings.

More than being the most-liked post by a Korean act, what makes the milestone impressive is that the 25-year-old vocalist scaled the numbers without even owning a personal Instagram account. BTS members aren’t allowed to open individual accounts, and their presence on the photo-sharing platform is handled by theirBig Hit Music.

And this isn’t even his first time to set a record on Instagram. Last month, Tae-Hyung joined BLACKPINK’s Lisa in becoming just one of two Asian artists to have 8 million likes on multiple Instagram posts. This makes him the first male Asian artist to achieve this feat.

Outside of the app, Tae-Hyung also snatched a unique music sales record last month, becoming the first and only K-pop idol to have three solo songs reach #1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart, as well as the youngest artist ever to chart two songs on iTunes in over 100 countries.

#RecordMakerTaehyung indeed!
