Camila Cabello Releases Comeback Single ‘Don’t Go Yet’

Camila Cabello has a lot in store for her fans–aside from making her acting debut this year with the movie “Cinderella,” she’s also got a new song and a new album coming up.

According to the “Havana” hitmaker, the lead single from her upcoming album “Familia” called “Don’t Go Yet” was inspired by her Cuban roots. The song was co-written by Camila with Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, and Eric Frederic, and produced by Mike alongside Ricky Reed.

“The album’s journey started with [Scott Harris] and our makeshift studio in my bedroom in Miami about a year ago. We just had a mic, some MIDI keyboards and guitars! Then we brought it to LA where I met and worked with [Mike Sabath] for the first time,” Camila shared on Instagram.

“That first day of working together, we wrote this song after listening to old Cuban songs and playing with my dog Tarzan. Then [Ricky Reed] put his sauce all over it. These guys have become my true friends and we created a really loving and inspiring creative space,” she added.

‘Family and food’

A music video for the song also premiered on July 23, 2021, the same day Camila released her comeback single. The colorful and festive video directed by Philippa Price and Pilar Zeta featured some of Camila’s family members, including her father, sister, and cousin.

“This whole album to me was inspired by two things: family and food. Your family by blood, but also your chosen family. Who you want to break bread with. Who you want to sit at the dinner table with, cook a meal for, get wine-drunk with, and dance in the living room with,” she said.

“To me, those are the moments that make me glad to be alive, those moments of collective joy and true vulnerability and connection with other people… I hope you enjoy it and I hope it inspires many wine drunk kitchen dance parties for you and your familia.”

Another special participation came from her grandfather, whose voice is the first thing that could be heard in the music video. “My grandpa’s voice is the voice you hear on the radio station,” she shared on Twitter.

“Don’t Go Yet” is the first single from Camila this year, succeeding “First Man” and “My Oh My” from 2020. Her sophomore album “Romance,” released in 2019, carried her song “Señorita” which peaked at the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.
