Filipino Boy Group “ALAMAT” Sings in Seven Philippine Languages!

Hearing songs with words from two different languages is already cool enough. But a song with seven languages? That’s something off the charts!

New Filipino Boy Group, “ALAMAT,” has proven this possible with their debut single “kbye,” which features seven (out of the many) languages in the Philippines. The song includes words in Bicolano, Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Tagalog, and Waray-Waray.

ALAMAT

ALAMAT is a 9-member boy group composed of Taneo, Mo, Tomas, R-Ji, Kin, Valfer, Alas, Gami, and Jao, who come from different parts of the Philippines. With their inclusion in the group, they also bring their respective languages and cultures.

In an interview with VICE, they said, “We’d like to bring along bits and pieces of our heritage in our fashion, choreography, and music videos. The idea is that when the Filipino people, especially the youth, see our culture being used in modern entertainment, they’d feel a sense of prestige towards their own culture.”

The Pinoy sing-rap-dance boy group released their first music video, “kbye,” on Valentine’s Day 2021. The multilingual song talks about being left without saying goodbye (a.k.a. being ghosted!), and is accompanied by a colorful music video that features local textiles, Baybayin, and the Pinoy jeepney, among others.

“We are not here just to entertain, but to also use pop music as a means of telling the world about our people and our nation,” the group said on YouTube.
