It’s been more than a decade since Axel F’s Crazy Frog was released, and it looks like the animated amphibian is cooking up something interesting before the year ends.
On Instagram, the 2000s icon posted a photo of himself wearing a chef’s hat with the message, “Something’s cooking…” The last time Crazy Frog was on the charts, he stayed on top for four weeks. Will he be able to pull this stunt off again?

Who is Crazy Frog?
If the name Crazy Frog does not ring a bell, a quick search on the internet will show you a picture of this wacky, blue frog. He cruises on an imaginary motorcycle to the tune of the Beverly Hills Cop film soundtrack and quickly gained popularity in 2005. As unbelievable as it sounds, The Annoying Thing and its “ding dings” eventually topped the music charts.
An Upcoming TikTok Trendsetter
Sony Music A&R president Wolfgang Boss saw the resurging interest in the CGI-animated character and decided it was time to reintroduce it to this new generation. This is why on December 10, Crazy Frog is returning to YouTube with a mash-up of his past hits inspired by TikTok trends.
“When we started Crazy Frog, there was no TikTok. It didn’t exist. But right now, TikTok is super important. It’s basically the number one platform for people to share new music and funny things connected with music,” Boss told BBC News. Reinhard “Voodoo” Raith, the original producer, will once again lead the project.
The Axel F video has 3.1 billion views as of writing and is the 19th most popular video on YouTube. It was first uploaded in 2009 and sparked outrage because the creature was showing its genitals. Parents in the UK complained to the Advertising Standards Authority until it got edited. Similarly, this promoted a ban in the United States.
Boss assures that the new video will feature Crazy Frog as he was created — with a penis. “But we will have to do a censored version again because US media will not show the original version,” he said.
