Rejoice, theater fans, because Rak of Aegis is finally hitting our screens!
We’ve seen the teasers by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), but now we have the details. According to TheaterFansManila.com, the hit production featuring the best songs from Aegis will be available to stream for pay-per-view on ticket2me.net for two weekends: July 31 to August 1 and August 7 to 8, 2021.
The pay-per-view stream will be a recorded live performance and serves as the banner project of PETA’s #TakePETAbeyondCOVID fundraising campaign.
Created for the stage by PETA Artistic Director Maribel Legarda and written by Palanca winner Liza Magtoto, Rak of Aegis tells the story of Aileen, a young girl with a stunning voice who dreams of becoming a YouTube sensation. Singing songs from the classic repertoire of 90s band Aegis like Halik, Luha, Sayang na Sayang, and Basang-basa sa Ulan, Aileen finds herself in the position to both pursue her dream and help the flooded Barangay Venezzia out of its woes.
Dubbed by BroadwayWorld as the Philippines’ “Mamma Mia,” Rak of Aegis ran for seven seasons between its premiere in 2014 up to 2019. The hit musical has also snagged several awards such as Outstanding Original Musical, Outstanding Ensemble Performance for a Musical, Stage Direction for a Musical, Set Design, Musical Production, and many more.
Some of the principal cast members who belted Aegis on stage for seven seasons straight include Kim Molina and Aicelle Santos as Aileen; Jerald Napoles and Pepe Herrera as Tolits; real-life partners Isay Alvarez Seña and Robert Seña as Mary Jane and Kiel; and Kakai Bautista as Mercy, among others.
Keep an eye out on PETA’s Facebook page for the full streaming cast and other ticket details as the date nears.
