Ever since her debut, Lizzo has constantly been body-shamed in the media. Like every other woman, she battles with her own insecurities, but this time she’s not letting it get to her. The artist shared on the internet that she is learning to embrace every part of herself and we’re here to take notes.
In an Instagram post of her standing in front of the bathroom mirror, she demonstrates her self-care routine and how she accepts herself, curves, and all. The video starts with her flaunting her figure in cute underwear as part of the process is to speak positive affirmations. “I started talking to my belly this year. Blowing her kisses and showering her with praises,” the caption reads.
As she stares at her reflection, she recites, “I love you so much. Thank you so much for keeping me happy, for keeping me alive.” There is sincerity in her voice while she caresses her own skin and continues by saying kind words to herself. “Thank you. I’m going to continue to listen to you. You deserve all the space in the world to breathe, expand and contract and giving me life. I love you.”
Lizzo admits that she didn’t like the way she looked, so much so that she used to want to cut off her stomach. “But it’s literally ME. I am learning to radically love every part of myself. Even if it means talking to myself every morning.” Now she’s able to look past the superficial and appreciate the things her body can do.
The singer/songwriter/flutist hopes anyone watching takes the Instagram post as a sign to start loving themselves. Meanwhile, fans and celebrities alike were nothing but supportive in the comments section. Lizzo continues to prove that she is 100% THAT B*tch by living her best life while remaining unbothered by unsolicited opinions about her body.
