It’s happening, everybody! On August 27, we are going to see a Megan Thee Stallion x BTS collab in the form of a “Butter” remix.
The announcement came after a period of contest between rapper Megan Thee Stallion and her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. The label, run by former MLB star Carl Crawford, was allegedly preventing Megan from releasing the remix.
According to 1501, the release of the song would not be “good for her career as a recording artist.” Court documents also show that 1501 would allegedly allow for Megan’s appearance on the track only if they were paid $100,000.
Megan disagreed with her label and claimed that the release of the song would help her expand her fanbase internationally, and to block it would cause “irreparable damage” to her music career, as well as her relationship with fans and other recording artists in the music industry.
Just last year, the “WAP” rapper was engaged in a separate legal fight with 1501 after the label blocked the release of her EP Suga. The court granted Megan a temporary restraining order and ordered 1501 to “to do nothing to prevent the release, distribution, and sale of [her] new records,” and also forbade any interference with her or her career over social media or through her collaborators or associates.
With the situation surrounding the “Butter” remix, Megan felt that 1501 was in violation of the previous ruling.
Fans can rest easy, however, because the judge did rule in Megan’s favor and she’ll be able to drop the remix at the end of the week. The Texas native took to Twitter to share her excitement.
“Y’all don’t even understand how excited I am,” she tweeted, along with a couple of fire and crying emojis. Fans of both Megan and BTS replied to her tweet to show their support.
Catch the remix this Friday at 12PM, PHT on all streaming platforms.
