Olivia Rodrigo wins big at the 2021 VMA Awards

You may be having a pretty good year, but Olivia Rodrigo is definitely having a spectacular 2021. At the start of the year, the Filipina-American singer-songwriter became an overnight worldwide sensation because of her hit song Driver’s License. And now, the 18-year old is an MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) winner!

Yes, as per GMA News Online, Rodrigo bagged three major prizes at the VMAs. The pop sensation was named “Best New Artist” at the live ceremony held at the Barclay Centre in Brooklyn. To add to this, she also won “Song of the Year” and “Push Performance of the Year” with her record-breaking single Driver’s License.

In addition to winning big at the VMAs, she also killed it during her first-ever VMAs performance with her hit single Good 4 U. Her performance was the talk of the town, which is pretty impressive for a first-timer.

Rodrigo who arrived on the red carpet in a pink Versace creation was also nominated for “Artist of the Year” and “Best Pop Video.” Given the steep competition, three out of five isn’t bad at all! In fact, she and Lil Nas X led the awards night with three trophies each.

“I just feel so grateful that I get to write music and make stuff that I love and call it my job,” Olivia said in her thank you speech. “So thank you guys again for letting me do that.”

Needless to say, this teenage sensation is having the most amazing year, and with a few months left in the year, fans can still expect a lot more from Rodrigo. Plus, there are talks that she’s a shoo-in for a Grammy next year. Given that her music is eligible for nominations by 2022, fingers crossed that she can add Grammy winner to her already impressive resume.
