2NE1’s Sandara Park has parted ways with YG Entertainment after performing under its banner for 17 years.

YG Entertainment released an official statement that was published by Korean entertainment site Soompi, which made public that Sandara’s exclusive contract has expired.

“Sandara Park joined YG in 2004, and after debuting with 2NE1 in 2009, she has shown impressive performance not only in music but also in various areas such as acting, fashion, beauty, and as an MC,” the entertainment agency said. They also expressed their “sincere gratitude” to the artist and echoes its support for her future endeavors.

“We ask for much interest and support from fans so her positive energy can shine even further. We once again sincerely thank the fans who have loved Sandara Park as an artist of YG until now.”

Park first rose to fame as a runner-up on the first season of the talent search Star Circle Quest back in 2004. She also had a short stint in showbiz, during which she was dubbed the “Pambansang Krung-Krung.”

She then flew back to South Korea in 2007 where she launched her K-Pop career. Now going by Dara, Park became a member of the pioneering K-Pop girl group 2NE1. They would go on to win major awards, particularly in 2010 when they took home their first Artist of the Year and Album of the Year award as well as awards for Best Female Group and Best Music Video at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, making them the first group to achieve such a feat. The quartet would call it quits in 2016 following a long hiatus.

Park’s departure from YG Entertainment drew tears from fans on social media, who lauded her unwavering loyalty to the company and her positive impact as the “glue” of YG.
