Two days after he was reported missing, Shane O’ Connor, son of singer Sinéad O’Connor, has been found dead. He was 17.
The “Nothing Compares 2 U” songstress took to social media to announce the news. “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” she tweeted. “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
The teen went missing last Thursday after allegedly leaving from Tallaght Hospital. O’Connor has since blasted the establishment for allowing him to leave, as he had been on suicide watch after two failed suicide attempts.
Authorities later confirmed that they had discovered a body “in the Bray area of Wicklow” on January 7 and that they were standing down on the missing-person report issued for Shane O’Connor.
In a more recent post, O’Connor specified that her son had died by suicide, sharing that he had hung himself. “Guess where my son learned to make the noose that hung him?” she wrote on Twitter. “He tried a week ago and I asked him… he told me he’d studied it on the computer IN THE KIDS’S [sic] psych hospital at Linndara. While he was being treated there for psychoses [sic].”
She also harshly criticized Tusla (Ireland’s family service agency) and the HSE (Ireland’s health service) for neglecting her son and mishandling his case.
“Tusla and HSE to release dishonest ass covering statement in response to international questioning. A load of lies, refusals to accept responsibility. Couched as always in the omnipotent and false concern they claim to have for the privacy of the children who die on their watch,” she revealed on social media.
Shane was O’Connor’s third child whom she shared with musician Dónal Lunny.
