Even Lorde missed out on some Grammy love.

All things considered, 2021 was a fruitful year filled with exceptional music all around, but the Recording Academy seems to have been looking elsewhere if we were to judge the 2022 Grammy nominations which came out on Tuesday.

Although fans lashing out at the annual music nods aren’t exactly novel, this year’s roll was particularly pummeled for snubbing the biggest hit-makers that have hands down left mouths in the music industry agape. Let’s survey the scene and determine which artists the Recording Academy seems to have wronged this year, based on the response.

The biggest artist who got the brush-off by sheer noise alone is BTS, who received a lone nod for Best Pop/Duo Group Performance after a year of smashing charts and world records with “Butter” and making history, such as when they won Artist of the Year at the recently concluded American Music Awards (AMAs).

Under the now-trending hashtag #scammys, ARMYs are vocalizing their irritation towards the Grammys for ignoring their idols:

Although BTS did not release a full-length record this year, “Butter” still managed to skyrocket to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving them their fourth #1 within a year and making them the fastest group to do so since the Jackson 5 way back in 1970.

This year, they are up against fellow nominees in Coldplay (“Higher Power), Doja Cat feat. SZA (“Kiss Me More”), Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco (“Lonely”), and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (“I Get a Kick Out of You”).

Another so-called victim of this year’s music awards show is Taylor Swift, who shared BTS’ fate after receiving only one nomination for Album of the Year for her indie-inspired record, evermore. Still high from the wave of emotions that Red (Taylor’s Version) caused, fans are palpably frustrated that the country songstress was snubbed in the show’s Big Four categories.

Not one to be fazed, Swift shared on social media that she doesn’t see any problem with her solo nomination.

“No problems today, just champagne,” Swift wrote. “SO stoked evermore has been honored like this. Congrats to all our fellow nominees!”

Speaking of, evermore will be contending with other topnotch albums by Billie Ellish (Happier than EverDoja Cat (Planet Her Deluxe), H.E.R. (Back of My Mind), Job Batiste (We Are), Justin Bieber (Justice Triple Chucks Deluxe), Kanye West (Donda), Lil Nas X (Montero), Olivia Rodrigo (Sour), and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (Love for Sale).

Other members of this year’s Grammy snub club according to music critics include Miley Cyrus, who released the glam-rock record Plastic Hearts, for Best Rock PerformanceLorde for Album of the Year for putting out the eclectic full-length that is Solar Power, and Tyler the Creator in honestly any of the Big Four categories just for releasing Call Me If You Get Lost, a vivid full-length that transcends traditional visions within hip-hop and rap.

Oh well, there’s hardly anything new about the Grammys overlooking artists in their prime. Better luck next year, maybe?
