The Biggest Quarantine Album Releases That Kept Us Company This 2020

The Biggest Quarantine Album Releases That Kept Us Company This 2020

You know all those posts we saw early in lockdown about how many artists in the olden days ended up creating masterpieces during the plagues? Well, when it came to the music we were graced with this year, that was actually pretty accurate. While which quarantine album is the best is a debate we’ll never settle, some albums definitely made waves on social media more than others.

Here are some of the quarantine releases that got the internet talking this 2020:

Chromatica

Lady Gaga’s first studio album in four years definitely had everyone dancing in their living rooms. With beats reminiscent of the ballroom scene and themes about overcoming hardship and trauma, it’s not a surprise that it topped the charts. Gaga’s collaborations with other big names in the industry, Blackpink and Ariana Grande, for a couple of the album’s singles didn’t hurt either!

After Hours

This album was the first big music release after lockdown started in March, and it was all over the internet because of that. However, the talk about After Hours quickly shifted from viral jokes about how The Weeknd chose the best time to drop new music (which is when everyone was stuck at home) to how good the album was. It even trended on Twitter again last month when social media got angry about the album getting snubbed by the Grammys.

Folklore and Evermore

We can’t mention one without the other because each one of these sister albums definitely broke the internet when announced less than a day before their respective releases. Two surprise albums from Taylor Swift in four months is already a lot, but the fact that these albums showed us new heights and variety in Swift’s songwriting skills made it even more of a hit.

BE

BTS has broken so many records this year, several just with this album and its tracks. With BE, the group explored their feelings and ideas that they’ve been toying with this past year. What resulted was a poignant expression of what it feels like to try and keep hope alive in a year like 2020, and both ARMYs and non-fans alike loved them for it.

Future Nostalgia

To call this album a disco-pop masterpiece isn’t an exaggeration, and the internet knew that. It had everyone raving about the way it wasn’t just refreshing compared to her debut album, but it was also the perfectly curated collection of cheeky upbeat tracks that helped listeners forget about their pandemic anxieties, even if for a little while.

Legends Never Die

Juice WRLD’s third studio album debuted at #1 of Billboard’s 200 after its posthumous release. Many fans of the rapper took to social media to express how thankful they were to hear this album which many found to be the perfect farewell to and from the late artist after his unexpected death back in December 2019.

The Album

Blackpink is probably the biggest K-pop girl group right now, so when they released their first full-length Korean-language studio album this quarantine, of course the internet went wild. “Lovesick Girls,” a title track that became one of the biggest music video debuts on YouTube, is the perfect pop anthem that you won’t mind getting stuck in your head and the rest of the album is full of records that are sure to hype you up.
