“Dadaan-daanan ka na lang,” says Ate Guy!
2022 National Artist of The Philippines for Film and Broadcast Nora Aunor has verbalized her sentiment over younger artists, pointing at the seeming lack of respect that these stars have towards senior celebrities.
In a YouTube interview with actress Snooky Serna, the Philippine Cinema Superstar points out an observation that younger stars do not pay respect nowadays as religiously as her generation used to do back then.
Nora says, “Marami sa mga kabataang artista kasi ngayon na, minsan, yung nauuna ba. Hindi tulad natin na yung mga artista nung araw. Mabibilang mo lang yung mga artistang talagang may respeto.”
“Ngayon kasi yung mga kabataan minsan dadaan-daanan ka na lang, e,” she continues as Snooky reaffirms in a resounding statement that it takes only a few gestures to acknowledge a veteran, “much more an icon of the movie industry.”
The 69-year-old acting legend adds that the absence of courtesy is not a unique experience as other veterans in the industry also encounter this. She asks, “Respeto lang kasi ano, e, importante sa atin yan e, magkaroon ng respeto sa kapwa.” Artists or not, Nora says that respect is a universal act that must be practiced at all times.

Nora Aunor on her rivalry and friendship with Vilma Santos
Pitted by many over drama supremacy, the long-persisting rivalry between Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos sits as one of the de facto pillars of Philippine entertainment. When Snooky brought up their relationship, Nora shares that they weren’t exactly super close. However, she clarifies that they are also not in any feud per se.
In February 2023, Vilma shared her opinion over the prestigious National Artist title given to Aunor. In a press launch as the new Angkas endorser, Vilma said, “If it’s for you, it’s meant for you. Kapag hindi napunta sa ‘yo, it’s not meant for you. So, doon sa hindi nabigyan, it’s not meant for them.”
While there has been enduring competition between them, Vilma has chosen to see the good relationship that they both established over the years. “Kahit sabihin mong may mga ganyang rivalry, I mean, she’s still a friend,” she said.
In her sincerest remark, Vilma said that there was a point in time she planned on visiting Nora amidst the latter’s pressing health issue. She also adds that she “really did pray for her.”
