Weekly Showbiz Round-up: Nora Aunor Makes Peace With Children on 70th Birthday; Shamcey Supsup Divulges Miss Universe PH 2023 “Technical Issue”

Matet de Leon and Nora Aunor finally make peace after tuyo issue

A series of celebrations transpired over the past week in show business.

First is Nora Aunor’s 70th birthday celebration with her kids Matet, Ian, and Lotlot de Leon, whom she had issues in the past.

Star Magic actor Enchong Dee has also fulfilled his life-long dream of attending Cannes Film Festival and even taking a photo with Cate Blanchett while “The Voice Kids” Season 5 has proclaimed its new winner.

Finally, a week after the controversial Miss Universe Philippines 2023 pageant, director Shamcey Supsup has disclosed further details over the Top 10 technical glitch.

Here’s what went down in showbiz over the past weekend:

Nora Aunor makes peace with then estranged children on 70th birthday

National Artist Nora Aunor and children have tucked behind the long-enduring feud between them as they reunited at the former’s 70th birthday party on Saturday, May 22 at Seda Hotel, Quezon City.

The superstar’s five children Kiko, Kenneth, and formerly in-feud Ian, Lotlot, and Matet de Leon have gathered with their respective families to celebrate the platinum year of the drama icon.

Ian, Lotlot, and Matet who had a disreputable familial history with Nora all expressed their love and greetings for the latter.

Lotlot reveals that “good health” has always been her prayer for her mother. She further says, “Kahit tawagan mo ako ng alas dos, alas tres ng madaling araw, babangon ako. I will be there for you! Andito ako dahil sa’yo.”

The sentiment is just the same for Ian who reminisced the maternal love that Nora has for her kids. As for him, despite the “darkness,” he chose to “accept it and embrace without judgment.”

Matet, on the other hand, goes candid in revealing details about her love-hate relationship with Nora. “Ako na lang po ang laging may pinakamaraming nasasabi tungkol kay mommy,” she expresses before saying that she loves Nora just as much.

It may be recalled that in late 2022, Matet and Nora had a spat after Matet expressed disappointment over her mom launching a tuyo business amid her knowledge that Matet also has her own established tuyo business.

Matet felt she was “trinaydor” by this move. But all’s well that ends well for them when they made amends early this year.

In return, Nora is only ever too grateful for the gift of life and for the guidance that the Lord has given her. “Andiyan pa rin ang Taas. Pinangangalagaan ako,” she says.

Kiko, Kenneth, Lotlot, and Matet are all adoptive children of the now 70–year-old Nora. Her only biological son is Ian from his then husband Christopher de Leon.

Shamcey Supsup discloses further details about Miss Universe 2023 “technical” glitch

Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee has finally spoken up a week after the “technical issue” that railed the Top 10 results of the recently concluded Miss Universe Philippines 2023.

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Shamcey revealed on social media the reason behind the shocking decision of calling out all the 18 delegates to compete in the evening gown portion despite prior announcement of the Top 10.

According to Shamcey’s lengthy social media post, the Top 10 results were “independently tabulated”  by its auditing partner SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co (SGV)—an established accounting firm in the Philippines.

Upon submission for record-keeping, Shamcey recalled noticing “highly improbable figures” that led her to believe that the “integrity of the results may have been compromised.”

The discrepancy prompted the Miss Universe Philippines board to resort to a manual tabulation—further claiming that it was done with “utmost diligence and in the presence of the accounting firm.”

After doing so, the succeeding tabulation then pointed at an evident “discrepancies” in the first Top 10 results, resulting in the decision to disregard the first announcement and allow the Top 18 delegates to compete in the evening gown segment.

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, the 34-year-old Star Magic actor uploaded a series of Instagram photos from the inaugural Cannes Film Festival—one of which is a selfie with Cate.

The post comes with an elated expression of his epiphanies as an actor, in which he writes, “Ang mundo ng isang aktor ay hindi nananatili sa loob ng bansa. Malaki ang mundo. Malayo ang lalakbayin. Masarap matuto. Nakaka-excite gumawa ng pelikula na maipapalabas mo sa mga banyaga. Thank you Lord pina-experience mo to sakin.”

What was once a dream is now a reality as Enchong finally got to attend the prestigious French film festival, even more so, as a representative of the Philippines for an action entry “Topakk.”

He extended his gratitude to screenwriter Adolfo Alix Jr. who brought Enchong to the screening of period piece “New Boy” starring Cate.
