It had been sticking out like a sore thumb, but now the secret’s out: Oscar Isaac is officially rejoining the Marvel banner. This time, though, he isn’t portraying an ancient mutant villain, but a multifaceted superhero in Moon Knight.

Marvel made the subtle announcement through social media, where it posted a spread of Moon Knight artwork behind half of Isaac’s profile. Its caption read “WE ARE MOONKNIGHT,” a slight nod to the superhero’s several alter-egos.

In the comics, Moon Knight, also known as Marc Spector, is a man of many expertise. A former boxer, an elite soldier, a CIA operative, and a skilled mercenary, Spector becomes a superhero after being left to die by a friend during an archeological dig in Egypt. The ancient Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu, offers Spector a second shot at life and more, in exchange for being the deity’s avatar on Earth.

Variety first reported last October that Isaac was in talks with Marvel Studios to star in the aforementioned TV series for Disney Plus, but nothing was ever confirmed. In March, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star Sebastian Stan mentioned in passing during a virtual press conference that Isaac landed the Moon Knight role, but Marvel still kept mum. Perhaps this post is the satisfying ending to Marvel’s string of teasing.

This will be Isaac’s second outing as an Egyptian character with the studio, with the first being his portrayal of Apocalypse/En Sabah Nur in 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” for 20th Century Fox.

The maiden season of “Moon Knight” is scheduled to be released in 2022, and will initially consist of six episodes.
