Pia Wurtzbach breaks her silence on ongoing family issue

(Trigger warning: Sexual abuse)

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach broke her silence to address the ongoing issue between her mother Cheryl Alonzo Tyndall and sister Sarah Wurtzbach Manze.

She posted a photo of her family on Instagram and appealed to the public to stop ‘victim shaming’ her sister who is suffering from a trauma from the past.

“I’m sure a lot of you know that my family is going through some issues at the moment and most of it is posted online. This is a very hurtful time for our family. My sister, especially, had a very traumatic experience, and I humbly ask everyone to be kind to her,” she wrote.

News about their family feud first broke out when the younger Wurtzbach posted a series of messages on her Instagram Story where she criticized their mother and Pia. Later on, the sisters have soon patched things up.

“We are trying to resolve our family issues privately and I ask for your support by not trying to put the blame on anyone and stop victim shaming,” Pia shared on Instagram.

Sarah soon revealed that she was sexually abused as a child and that their mother blamed her for it. According to her, Cheryl stopped communicating with her for the last 6 months.

“Please be mindful on your posts and comments to Sarah, mabigat ang pinagdadaanan niya ngayon,” Pia said.

Sarah commented on her post and said, “I love you and thank you.”

Their mother also addressed the issue in a vlog together with her husband Nigel Tyndall.

“We had sleepless nights and was greatly affected by it. Almost angry, very angry as to how her daughter could slight her mother after all the things that we’ve done,” he said.

Nigel mentioned that they have only learned about Sarah’s controversial posts through the netizens since they were blocked from her social media accounts.

“It took a lot of time to think back over the years of all the wrongs and bad things that were done to us, and Cheryl, after we helped her.”

Cheryl, on her part, shared a story about their time living in Pasig wherein Sarah was already friends with whom their neighbor thought as ‘bad influence’ to the then 10-year-old.

Alonzo-Tyndall moves to the UK with daughters Pia and Sarah

Cheryl said she had no idea that her daughter was abused as a child since she never confessed to her even when she called for a ‘barangay meeting’ which was soon dismissed since Sarah was not disclosing anything.

It wasn’t until they moved to the UK that Sarah began opening up about her traumatic past. The school principal alerted Cheryl about Sarah’s experience and when she asked her, they both broke down.

Tapos may ganyan palang nangyari pa? Sino ‘yun? Bakit hindi mo sinasabi sa akin? Bakit sa ibang tao?”

Cheryl believes that her daughter might be going through a postpartum depression and that she believes Sarah still loves her.

“I always think maybe it’s postpartum… I just want to believe that is just postpartum. That’s all I can say for now because I love my daughters. I don’t believe that she hates me so much. I know she loves me. I still believe that.”
