Piolo Pascual Announces Theater Comeback

Aside from ‘Ibarra,’ Piolo Pascual is also set to take part in an upcoming historical film

Actor Piolo Pascual has finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of returning to the theater some 30 years later. The Kapamilya star on Wednesday, April 14, 2023, shared the poster of his latest foray as a thespian in the upcoming production of the historical musical “Ibarra.”

Pascual will be playing the role of Crisostomo Ibarra in the stage musical produced by Tanghalang Una Obra, with shows running from June 8 to June 18, 2023, at the GSIS Theater.

Joining Pascual onstage are Myramae Meneses (Maria Clara), Jeffrey Hidalgo (Elias), Floyd Tena (Padre Damaso), Carlo Mañalac (Padre Salvi), Nicole Laurel Asensio (Sisa), JD Tena (Basilio), Elian Santos (Crispin), Jon Joven Uy (Pilosopo Tasyo) and Carla Guevara Laforteza (Doña Victorina).

“Ibarra” is an adaptation of Dr. Jose Rizal’s novel “Noli Me Tangere.”

Before becoming a celebrated actor, Pascual was part of a theater group when he was in fifth grade called Teatro Ni Kiko.

Piolo Pascual’s next projects

The actor will also be jumping into another historical role in the film “GomBurZa.” The film will be following the story of the three famed Catholic priests, Mariano Gomez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora. The priests were executed during the Spanish occupation in 1872 on charges of subversion in relation to the Cavite mutiny in the same year.

Pascual will be taking on the role of Pedro Pelaez, a contemporary of Mariano Gomez, who was known to have fought for the rights of Filipino priests during the Spanish colonial period. The film also stars Dante Rivero, Cedric Juan, and Enchong Dee in the titular roles. It is scheduled to premiere in December this year.

Aside from the historical projects, the Kapamilya heartthrob also just finished filming a reunion series with Alessandra de Rossi, which is set to come out on Netflix.

Currently, he is also filming a new suspense-crime-thriller movie tentatively titled “The Ride” with Kyle Echarri.

Pascual came from the successful run of the Philippine adaptation of the South Korean series “Flower of Evil” in 2022. He also went on a concert tour with Jericho Rosales in Canada and the United States last November 2022.

Pascual also reunited with other former Star Magic talents like Bea Alonzo, Heart Evangelista, John Lloyd Cruz, and his groupmates in The Hunks, Rosales and Diether Ocampo.
