Remember when Bamboo said “I’ll never say never” about performing with his former bandmates?
Good news for the Rivermaya fans!
Live Nation Philippines just dropped hints on October 31, unveiling a Rivermaya reunion concert happening on February 17, 2024.
The teaser features four blurred portraits of four men, a cheering concert crowd, and a blurry group photo, ending with the flashing message, “Soon. 02.17.2024.”
Eagle-eyed fans quickly identified the figures in the clip as Bamboo Mañalac, Rico Blanco, Mark Escueta, and Nathan Azarcon, who were the original members of Rivermaya.
It is later confirmed when Live Nation finally released details for the upcoming concert which is confirmed to be happening on February 17 at SMDC Festival Grounds. Ticket selling will begin on Saturday, November 17.
A look back at Rivermaya’s career
Rivermaya, emerged as one of the most prominent bands in the 1990s, debuting in 1994 with a self-titled album. They’re known for their timeless hits like, “214,” “Awit ng Kabataan,” and “Kisapmata” among others. Its original members are Bamboo Mañalac, Perf de Castro, Rico Blanco, Mark Escueta, and Nathan Azarcon.
The band then encountered several changes in the subsequent years following the departure of some of its members. Perf left the band in 1995 while Bamboo departed in 1998. Rico followed suit in 2007. Rivermaya continues to rock on with Mark and Nathan as the remaining original members, accompanied by their long-serving guitarist, Mike Elgar.
In 2020, Bamboo seemed to rule out the possibility of a reunion with his former band, stating, “I don’t think so. I’ll never say never, I’ll never say never, pero I don’t think so because again, it sort of goes against what I do, what I believe.”
But just this year, in an interview on March 24, Bamboo hinted at being open to a reunion concert with his former band. He said, “I will never say never. But I cannot imagine how. We can hang out in the house or have dinner, but to play again?”
