RK Bagatsing talks about doing sexy scenes with his girlfriend Jane Oineza
After being a couple for several years, RK Bagatsing says he and his long-term girlfriend Jane Oineza are not in a rush to get married anytime soon.
How is his relationship now with Oineza?
“Everything is great,” says Bagatsing during the press conference for the film “Kahit Maputi Na ang Buhok Ko (The Music of Rey Valera).” Bagatsing plays the music icon Rey Valera in this entry for the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 which is being shown until April 18.
“Excited kami sa mga career namin individually,” he continues about Oineza.
Have Bagatsing and Oineza talked about getting engaged or settling down already?
“If there’s one thing na happy ako, it’s her career kasi nakikita ko na ang daming parating for her. Doon muna tayo. Focus ako sa career ko and sobra akong excited para sa mga darating na projects for her so doon muna.”
A lot of showbiz couples recently broke up. Does Bagatsing feel nervous that his relationship with Oineza would also end up being on the rocks?
“Well, hindi ko pinapansin, hindi ko iniisip. Siyempre, matututo tayo sa mali ng iba and at the same time, matuto rin tayo sa mga nagwo-work na relationship. Hindi ako masyadong nagfo-focus doon sa mga hindi nagwo-work na relationship. I-celebrate natin ang mga strong relationships.”
How do they manage to maintain their strong bond as a couple over the years?
“Ang sikreto lang, alam mo na work-in-progress ang bawat isa. Wala namang perpektong tao. The more na nag-aaway kayo, the more na ibigay mo ang unconditional love mo kasi parehas kayong natututo. Parehas niyong suportahan ang isa’t isa. Ganun kaming dalawa.”

RK Bagatsing and Jane Oineza worked with each other for an upcoming sexy movie titled “The Swing,” wherein they portrayed a couple with an open marriage. They engage in swinging or swapping sexual partners while living in Switzerland.
Bagatsing admits, “Excited rin kami sa pelikula namin na lalabas this summer, yung ‘The Swing.’ Mas mature, mas matapang, mas daring.”
Is it more awkward for him to do love scenes with Oineza now that they are a couple compared back then when they were not yet in a relationship?
“Lahat naman ng love scenes sa pelikula, nakakailang at first kasi choreography yan, e. Sa isang banda, okay na rin kasi kumportable na tayo sa isa’t isa pero I’m playing a character, she’s playing a character. Baka mamaya ma-carried away ako at hindi pala pang-audience yung ginagawa namin. Baka malimutan ko,” he says with a laugh.

What made RK Bagatsing agree to play Rey Valera, one of the most prolific songwriters in the Philippines?
“Ngayon kasi sa stage ng career ko, ayaw kong maging safe. Sabi ko, natatakot ako pero iyan iyong mga gusto kong project. Yung natatakot ako, so, nag-yes ako sa proyekto.”
Bagatsing was initially reluctant to accept the role of the singer-composer. The producers convinced him by saying that he did not have to sing for this MMFF 2023 entry.
“May nai-record na silang mga kanta at gusto lang nilang mai-arte yung puso ng bawat kanta kaya nila ako kinukuha.”
Bagatsing reveals that he has actually not met Rey Valera before the shoot of the film.
“Never kaming nag-meet bago ko i-shoot. At saka ayoko rin ma-meet siya kasi gusto ko pagkatapos na lang, kasi baka maramdaman ko yung pressure at doon ako magkamali. Marami namang material on Rey online kasi may YouTube, maraming siyang concerts at maraming interviews at nasa bawat kanta naman niya ang personalidad niya.”
When asked about the most challenging part of portraying Valera, Bagatsing’s answer had something to do with the physical aspect of the character.
“Ang biggest challenge ko, yung wig! Kasi ang init talaga noong suot ko yung wig. May isa kaming shooting day na mainit, ang sakit ng ulo [ko] the whole day. Bawat eksena, kailangan kong kalimutan yung sakit ng ulo para magawa ko yung mga pinapagawa sa akin,” he recalls.
“Overall, nag-enjoy ako. Para lang akong pumunta sa set at nakikinig ng mga kanta. Kung meron mang challenge, it would be ‘Tama ba itong ginagawa ko?‘ Pero ang light kasi namin sa set.”
Valera was able to see Bagatsing’s portrayal of the role during a private screening. Bagatsing admits being nervous but Valera’s reaction brought him some relief.
He recalls, “Noong nag-private screening kami, kabado kami kasi small group lang kami. Hindi ko maitago ko yung kaba ko. Pag nag-uusap kami, hindi ko masabi nang diretso yung kailangan kong sabihin kasi nai-i-intimidate ako kasi legend siya. Kaharap ko na siya. May sinasabi siya sa akin pero hindi nagrerehistro. While watching the film, sumesenyas siya [ng thumbs up sign], so, unti-unting nawawala yung kaba namin ni Direk Joven [Tan, the director of this movie].
“Noong natapos yung pelikula, ang una niyang sinabi sa akin, ‘Alam mo, okay ito kasi ang pinakamensahe nito ay inspirasyon.”
Bagatsing believes the release of this biopic musical film is timely since a lot of movies were shown recently depicting the lives of singers. Some of these movies are “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody;” “Elvis,” which tackled the life of Elvis Presley; and “Rocketman,” featuring the life of British musician Elton John.
He points out, “So, ito yung sarili nating version sa Pilipinas.”
