Fans of Sarah Geronimo have been anticipating for her movie comeback. It has been almost four years since she last did a movie.
Currently, VIVA Films is already active in doing moves in cinemas, as well as for Vivamax and its newly launched streaming platform, Viva Prime.
This has lead fans to ask: Will Sarah Geronimo finally do a movie this 2023?
Vincent del Rosario, Viva Entertainment President and Chief Operating Officer, answers this when he faced select media—including FreebieMNL—in an intimate press conference recently.
He says, “Si Sarah naman, imbes na gumawa ng movie, gumawa ng dalawang concerts. Okay rin naman dahil she wanted to focus on her music and, true enough, hanggang ngayon ipinu-promote niya yung album niya na bago, yung ‘Dati-Dati.’ Pero yung pelikula, iikot kami uli ngayon sa kanya para mag-pitch ng materials and, hopefully, may magustuhan siya. Kasi ang gaganda ng materials na naka-line up para sa kanya.”
Geronimo’s last movie was 2019’s “Unforgettable,” where she played a young woman with a mental disability.
Anne Curtis’ movie comeback
As for another VIVA superstar Anne Curtis, she is set to return to acting anytime soon.
However, she has yet to become busy with a VIVA project because she is currently doing a project outside of her agency.
Del Rosario says, “Si Anne, ang mauuna niyang pinaka-acting comeback, yung series ng isang popular film na ginawa niya. Actually, hindi sa Viva yun, pero she’s training now. Babalikan niya yung isang role na ginawa niya sa movie. Si Anne took a year off, so noong pagbalik niya, dapat yung gagawin niya, feature film. [Pero] sabi niya, ‘Tanggapin ko muna yung series,’ then gagawa siya ng feature film after that.”
Curtis’ last movie was the MMFF entry “The Mall, The Merrier” with Vice Ganda. She then took a maternity leave and when she came back, she headlined a concert shown on Vivamax.
Vivamax and VIVA Prime projects
Speaking of VIVA platforms, the media company recently launched VIVA Prime, a platform where more wholesome content for family will be shown. The agency’s first platform, Vivamax, is now more known as platform for more sexy content.
FreebieMNL then asked del Rosario if the likes of Geronimo and Curtis will be seen more on VIVA Prime than Vivamax.
Del Rosario explains, “Actually yung library, let’s say si Sarah, sa VivaMax, nandoon siya, except kung naka-license sa ibang platform,” which pertains to Geronimo’s films in the past. “But otherwise, kung wala man dito, nasa labas ng Philippines, yung mga ‘Unforgettable,’ you don’t see it here pero kasi global, e.”
Also, the prime artists of VIVA are also set to more original content for the platform. He adds, “Sila Sarah, sila Anne, sila Vice [Ganda] eventually, they’ll be doing content for the platform—movies, concerts, anything, artists from different agencies. We tend to do hybrids, minsan [with] mga talents namin. Parang ‘Expensive Candy,’ si Carlo [Aquino] is not a VIVA artist pero kasama niya si Julia [Barretto].”
