SB19 is the lone Filipino act that took part in the show
P-Pop powerhouse SB19 landed in the trending topics anew after their brief participation in the Korean documentary series, “K-Pop Generation” last February 18, 2023.
The group appeared in the four-minute snippet from the series’ fourth episode titled “What the K?”
SB19 members talks about their rise to fame and goals as artists in the video posted on TVING’s YouTube channel.

K-Pop and SB19
In their interview, SB19 talks about how the global phenomenon K-pop has shaped their goals for their group.
“‘SB’ stands for Sound Break, meaning breaking into the music scene here in the Philippines. And [we] also [hope] to promote, of course, Filipino music and Filipino culture to the world stage,” explains main vocalist Stell.
Leader Pablo, meanwhile, recalls how their group was formed. He later on reveals that the members chose to train under ShowBT Philippines because “it’s a Korean company.” ShowBT Philippines is the local subsidiary of ShowBT Group.
“We know that Korean entertainment is very flourished. It’s very successful and they have their own system to train their talents,” says Pablo. He recounts that the group broke into the entertainment scene after a dance practice clip for their second single “Go Up” went viral.
Sparking change
Drawing inspiration from their experiences, Josh says they, as SB19, share the vision of wanting to make a change in the music industry.
“‘Sound Break,’ It means breaking into the music industry in the Philippines, and I think hopefully in the world as well, and I think that’s what we’re doing right now,” Josh shares.
“We’re very lucky and fortunate that we were able to do it, slowly but surely,” he adds.
In December, SB19 wrapped up its “Where You At” world tour, which made stops in the United States, United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.
The show “K-Pop Generation” explores the international success of the K-pop industry, featuring interviews with artists, producers, fans, and music critics.
K-Pop artists such as SHINEE’s Minho, EXO’s Suho, MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, NCT’s Doyoung, and groups Stray Kids, TXT, and IVE also took part in the show.
SB19 is the lone Filipino act that joined the other K-Pop-inspired acts from countries outside of South Korea in the docuseries.
