Go big or go home, right?

On the Wednesday edition of GMA’s “Wowowin,” host, comedian, and businessman Willie Revillame reminded the public once again to beware of scammers pretending to be him to extort money out of unsuspecting people.

This is following an intriguing interaction he had where a scammer introduced themselves via SMS as “Willie Revillame” and asked for money… from Kuya Wil himself.

Mag-ingat kayo. Ngayon may nag-text sa amin, ako, tinext ako, siya raw si Willie Revillame! Nanghihingi ng P40, pang-load daw dahil birthday ko. Hello! Hindi ho ako hihingi ng kahit ano sa inyo!” the host shared during the show.

He then went on to remind viewers that they only contact the public within the show’s scheduled live broadcast: “Dito lang ho sa GMA 7, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter niyo lang malalaman ang totoo. Diyan lang kayo manonood at maniwala, wala nang iba pa. After po ng 6:30 [in the evening], kapag may nanghingi sa inyo, hindi na po kami ‘yan, scam na po ‘yan.”

Dyusko naman, sa halagang 40 pesos… hihingi ba ako ng load sa inyo?” Revillame bemoaned, though still with a laugh. He has a point though — Revillame, who is touted as the third richest individual in the Philippines with a recorded net worth of P600 million, would probably not beg from random strangers, much less for mobile prepaid load.

Revillame, who is also known for his philanthropic stints on TV, has exerted much effort in shutting down scammers that assume his identity. He, together with Wowowin’s executives, have repeatedly sounded alarms alerting the public about mobile and online scams, and have even threatened these scammers with legal action.
