“Scott Pilgrim” Is Returning As An Animation

“Scott Pilgrim” animated version will feature its original cast members.

The long wait is over! “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’s” anime adaptation has finally been set in stone.

After teasing their fans last year, it can now be said that is really happening because movie director and producer Edgar Wright finally spilled solid details of the upcoming series through a tweet on March 30, 2023.

Wright has already rid the fans of the agony of guessing who the cast would be on the anime reboot on Netflix as she shared them in the announcement video.

“After much musing over the years about there being a potential for an anime adaptation of ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ I’m thrilled to say one is imminent,” Wright says in the thread.

“Scott Pilgrim” and more

Another exciting part of the news is that the original cast of the film will be voicing the characters in the anime series.

The cast is composed of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Johnny Simmons as young Neil, and Michael Cera as the “notorious” Scott Pilgrim.

For Wright, bringing in the original cast was a foregone conclusion.

“Luckily, the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ cast became a close-knit family, and friendships were forged for life,” he tells Tudum, Netflix’s blog.

“There—to this day— is still a group email with the entire cast on it, that’s been going since 2010. I was happy to be able to reach out to everyone with the news that we had finally come up with a way to continue the adventure. Seeing (and hearing) everyone come back to their roles has been a true pleasure,” Wright further shares.

Joining the fan of this exciting new announcement is the upcoming voice cast who each had their own say about the big news, too.

Larson writes on Twitter, “Hello again  #ScottPilgrim.” Meanwhile, Chris posts: “BOOM!”

In an Instagram post, Plaza says, “SCOTT F#%*ING PILGRIM!!!” Echoed our thoughts, honestly.

Scott is ready to defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes in anime form, which will be created by Japanese animation studio Science SARU.

One of their notable works is “Ping Pong the Animation,” the TV series that scored the grand prize at the 2014 Tokyo Anime Awards Festival. They are also the same house that produced shorts for the animated anthology series “Star Wars: Visions” in 2021.

The 2010 cult favorite is based on the hit comic series by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O’Malley. Wright, O’Malley, and BenDavid Grabinski are the executive producers of the anime adaptation and are set to bring Scott’s world to Netflix.
