Sheryl Cruz Shares Thoughts On Getting Botox, Cosmetic Enhancements

Sheryl Cruz on other personalities getting botox: “I’ve seen some of my friends dito sa showbiz [who] have no problems with it. Siguro, kapag kaunting-kaunti lang yung botox”

Singer-actress Sheryl Cruz has been active in show business since she was a teen star in the ‘80s.

Growing up in the industry, Sheryl is praised for her ageless look, fit body, and youthful demeanor.

Her secret? Consistency in her routines.

She proudly shares in a recent interview, “Naghu-hula hoop pa rin ako hanggang ngayon. Oo, naghu-hula hoop pa rin ako but then I do lift weights also. So, kailangan kasi yun ng ating mga katawan habang nagkaka-edad para yung consistency pati yung regularity, at saka para mas maging flexible pa rin.

Kasi di ba, nawawala yung flexibility habang nagkaka-edad? Since I love to dance also, nakakatulong din yun.

Pagkatapos nun, usually I just use [a facial wash] since time immemorial na nag-start ako sa showbiz.”

Sheryl was also announced as one of the ambassadors of the recently opened skin clinic, Skinlandia, located in SM Fairview.

She also incorporates some facial treatments from the skin clinic as part of her regimen.

But when it comes to cosmetic enhancements, say botox, Sheryl is proud to say she has not undergone these, thanking her mom Rosemarie Sonora and aunt Susan Roces for the genes.

Sheryl explains, “Ang botox, hindi naman talaga. Actually kasi, since my aunt and my mom, they’re both actresses at saka wala naman kasi silang ginawang really with their faces to enhance it. Talagang it’s purely dieting and exercising and massaging their faces, nakikita ko.

“And bilin kasi sa akin, kung anong binigay sa ‘yo ng Diyos, make do with it and be thankful—be grateful.”

Sheryl, however, clarifies that she does not have problems with other people undergoing cosmetic enhancements.

“I have no problems with enhancements or anything like that, because kung makakatulong sa isang tao to build up their self-confidence, wala akong problema dun.”

Sheryl is then asked: Has she noticed co-actors who have gone through botox and have affected their job?

The Kapuso actress honestly says, “I’ve seen some of my friends dito sa showbiz have no problems with it. Siguro, kapag kaunting-kaunti lang yung botox.

“But then there are times talaga, like, some of my friends, [sinasabi] na mga hindi artista kung ‘di journalists, minsan wala nang expression talaga raw. So, it’s so hard even if they’re trying to be empathizing to a situation.”

But was there a time when she got distracted by a co-actor while doing a scene because of too much botox?

And iba na ang science and technology natin right now.

“But then, as much as possible, na-training ko sa aking sarili, especially like workshops and acting, meron namang lugar na pwedeng tingnan mo na hindi mo kailangang tingnan sila directly para hindi ka ma-distract.”

Sheryl then reiterates that she does not have any problem with friends and colleagues going through cosmetic enhancements as long as it does not affect work.

She adds, “But then, honestly, if that’s the way they feel more confident with themselves, di ba? I mean let them have it because una sa lahat, ako ha, ito lang naman ang motto ko sa sarili ko especially sa work ko—for as long as you’re not actually trying to complicate my work then do your trip.

Alam mo ibig sabihin, kanya-kanya tayong trip, di ba, sa buhay? Ganun tayo.

FreebieMNL and other entertainment reporters spoke to Sheryl during the opening of Skinlandia in SM Fairview on June 1, 2024.

Sheryl on having healthy skin

Sheryl is aware that the aesthetic skin clinic she endorses also offers surgery, apart from other non-invasive treatments and facial services.

Of this, Sheryl admits “Tempting! It’s tempting, di ba?”

She then expounds, “But coming from a family of medical doctors doon sa side ng mom ko, medyo kasi kapag ganyan, they caution me dahil we know of all the side effects and all that stuff. Although alam ko naman na pinag-aaralan naman yan ng mga cosmetologists and the doctors here. I’m sure, kasi specialty nila yan.

“But then, since at my age naman, I’m in my 50s, all I want is my skin. Yung ganyan, healthy skin, just a healthy glow—malinis lang na mga pores.

“And then if ever, actually, ang gusto kong i-try yung para sa mahihilig sa nagwo-work out. Di ba, yung parang capsula nila? I don’t know what it does pero I’m actually kind of interested in that. I don’t know if it has something to do with sweating, pero that’s something I’ve been interested in.”

But Sheryl is grateful to Skinlandia for getting her as one of their new endorsers.

“This is a blessing na actually ginawa ako sa isa sa mga aalagaan ng Skinlandia, and I do thank Noreen Divina and my manager for making that come true. And that, siyempre kailangan din naming mga artista na puhunan namin ang buong pagkatao namin.”
