Local actor Alex Diaz has landed the role of a lifetime in Hollywood!
Diaz is set to act in Glitter & Doom, a musical romance film that will have him star as Glitter, with British actor Alan Cammish playing Doom. The Mandalorian actress Ming-Na Wen and Y: The Last Man‘s Missi Pyle also have confirmed roles in the film.
On how he landed the role, Diaz said that his agent was the one who broke the news. “My agent just told me, ‘You got the role.’ And I broke down because this is my first international role, and it’s my first major lead role,” he shared.
The half-Filipino, half-Scottish and Irish Pampangan native first began his career in 2012 as a radio jock at Monster Radio RX 93.1. He then went on to join Star Magic Circle, where he landed roles in popular teleseryes and films like Got to Believe, She’s Dating The Gangster, and Just The Way You Are.
Though he took a showbiz break in 2019 after being outed by a celebrity fitness coach, Diaz has chosen to embrace his sexuality to the fullest.
“It honestly not just made my career, but it fixed so many psychological traumas that I had been working through,” he explained. “I feel like such a whole person that I could not had I not come back. I had to come back, and I have to fight for this kind of clarity, for every single person who ever felt like they weren’t allowed to be themselves.”
Diaz has since been training for his role; first, virtually, then eventually flying out to Los Angeles for a two-week in-person training. Production for the film is set in Mexico City, while a release date has yet to been announced.
