Handle A Heavy Workload The Alexa Ilacad Way

Discover the actress-singer’s success secrets.

Alexa Ilacad is on top of the world right now, what with her hot new love team (KDLex), single (“Paano”), and teleserye (Run to Me).

But according to her, her greatest achievement to date is her Marketing degree from Treston International College. She graduated on time and made the Dean’s List with an average of 1.0.–the highest possible grade a Treston student can get.

Alexa’s achievements become more impressive when you realize that she did those things while working full-time in showbiz. Read on and find out how you too can do it all, Alexa Ilacad-style.

Don’t do it alone

Don’t be afraid to lean on your inner circle if and when you need to. Alexa feels she couldn’t have made it without her family and friends, especially those who were fighting the same battle she was.

“My classmates were my rock,” she told ABS-CBN News. “They were very generous when it came to helping me.”

In an Instagram post, the Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 alumna gave her support system a well-deserved shoutout.

Be honest

Alexa said she was lucky her school supported her intention to study and work at the same time.

“My professors were very helpful, lenient, and patient, although I never asked for special treatment. I’d submit things on time when possible.”

Her professors were willing to help Alexa because she let them in on her situation. If you have a lot on your plate, be honest about your needs so others can help you stay on top of things.

Time management is key

Her schedule became crazier when she started college, but she managed to stay on top of everything. Alexa’s secret? Time management.

“People always ask me how I do so many things with flying colors. I guess it’s because I try to manage my time well. That’s why I was able to juggle school and work,” she said.

Put in the work

Alexa has been acting since she was eight years old, so she’s no stranger to hard work. She had to work even harder to balance school and showbiz because good grades don’t come naturally to her (or so she says).

“I’m not that smart. But what I am is hardworking. So I think that’s what people need. We need extra effort to achieve what we want,” she said.

Don’t give up

Alexa may be a hard worker, but she’s only human. Once, she broke down due to stress. At the time she was juggling two projects–the movie Four Sisters Before the Wedding and the teleserye Init Sa Magdamag–while going to school online.

“I got so anxious when I saw all my requirements,” she recalled. “I cried and said, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ Then I realized I have to do it. Pahinga lang, iyak muna, then do it.”

(“I got so anxious when I saw all my requirements,” she recalled. “I cried and said, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ Then I realized I have to do it. I just need to cry and rest first, then do it.”)

If and when you get overwhelmed, make like Alexa. Cry if you must, but don’t quit.

Love what you do

The more you love what you’re doing–whether you’re a professional with multiple jobs or a working student like Alexa–the more motivated you’ll be to burn the midnight oil. You’ll be surprised at how far the power of love can get you.

Prioritize your wellbeing

Finally, Alexa believes in the importance of self-care.

“The best advice I can give to anyone who’s doing anything at all, whether they’re overwhelmed or not, is to prioritize your wellbeing. You must take care of yourself. If you do that, everything else will follow. We can’t do anything unless we’re OK, but we tend to forget that because we get so wrapped up in what we want to achieve,” she said.

No matter who you are or what you do, if you apply all these tips to your daily life, you’ll shine as brightly as Alexa Ilacad is now.
