Ayn Bernos claps back at haters saying she’s not made for Miss Universe PH

“It’s about time girls like me are allowed to try, too,” the content creator boldly said.

The Miss Universe Philippines pageant has been heating up, and while all contestants naturally come to some friendly fires on their way to the crown, sometimes the drag comes from somewhere else. For TikTok star and fan-favorite Ayn Bernos, the sizzle comes from social media — but that doesn’t mean she’ll take it lying down.

Ever since landing a spot on the Miss Universe Philippines’ Top 100 and making it to the Top 15 o the pageant’s “Intro Video” challenge, Bernos has been turning heads as a morena beauty who means to introduce the pageant to a different set of beauty standards.

Apparently, this has rubbed some social media users the wrong way. Over the weekend, Bernos addressed a comment which claimed that she “must have a mental health problem” for believing she stands a chance “against taller, smarter, and more beautiful women,” and her retort, which she posted as an Instagram story, could not be any fiercer.

“I did not join Miss Universe Philippines because I believed I was the beauty standard,” the 26-year-old content creator started. “I joined it because I KNOW I’m not, and it’s about time girls like me are allowed to try, too.

She added: “Every time I start doubting myself, I always go back to my purpose: I needed someone like me on stage when I was younger. I did not feel represented. So now that I can do it for the next generation — why wait?”

“There are kids out there who see themselves in me. If I tell myself I’m not good enough, then I’m telling them they’re not good enough. I refuse to do that. So I represent.”

She then thanked those who continue to support her goal in the competition: “Thank you to those who understand and believe.”

To train for the upcoming pageant, Bernos has been breaking sweat inside the Kagandahang Flores Beauty Camp. She’s set to take on the next stage of the pageant which will pare the current crop of 75 contestants down to just 30.

The final 30 candidates will comprise the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 coronation night which will be held on September 25. The winner will represent the country in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant slated in Israel this December.
