The Meteor Garden star and the entrepreneur dubbed as one of the “Four Young Masters of Beijing” wed in 2010.

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, famously known as Shan Cai in the 2001 series Meteor Garden, has announced that she has filed for divorce from prominent Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei after more than a decade of marriage.

According to The Straits Times, the pair released a release to the media through their lawyer on Monday, November 22, which read: “After serious and careful consideration, Mr Wang and Ms Hsu have decided to divorce amicably and have begun related legal proceedings.”

The statement also said that it was an amicable decision between Hsu, 45, and Wang, 40, and that both of them have agreed to peacefully co-parent their two children.

“Mr. Wang and Ms Hsu had the joy of meeting and knowing each other and spent a wonderful time together. Even as they separate now, they are thankful for what they have given each other. In the past, they walked as spouses. In the future, they will be parents and friends. They will continue to raise their children together and give them all their love and support.”

The announcement comes months after rumors of their split circulated last June 2021. Back then, Wang apparently called the people of Taiwan “a bunch of traitors” on the Chinese social media website Weibo after two passengers who contracted COVID-19 arrived from the country to the Chinese city of Xiamen. When asked to comment, Hsu let out a shocker by revealing that she’s already in the process of divorcing her husband.

Hsu’s mother would later deny that a divorce was filed, and assured everyone that it was just a lover’s quarrel. Wang also assured social media users during a live stream last September that he and his wife were well.

Come November, though, Taiwanese magazine Mirror Media reported that Hsu filed for divorce at the Taipei district court in early November. The pair asked to divide their assets of around NT$950 million (around PHP1.7 billion) which is spread across property and Wang’s real estate.

Hsu and Wang tied the knot back in 2010. They have two children, a daughter which they had in 2014, and a son back in 2016.

Hsu was widely known for her lead role in the romantic-comedy series “Meteor Garden,” a Taiwanese adaptation of the Japanese manga series Boys Over Flowers. She also starred in hit movies such as Reign of Assassins and Connected before stepping out of the spotlight in 2012.

Wang is the heir to China’s mega-successful South Beauty Group, and is regarded as one of the “Four Young Masters of Beijing,” the elite circle of second-generation children to the country’s biggest moguls.
