We never would have thought we’d see Armie Hammer’s name and the word “cannibal” in the same sentence, but 2021 is out here to knock us all out.
If it hasn’t crossed your timelines yet, here’s the gist: Call Me By Your Name and The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer has been accused of being a cannibal, as alleged by a series of screenshots leaked online.
It all started when an anonymous Instagram account, House of Effie, posted a string of Instagram stories showing screenshots of a conversation between a woman and the actor in which he allegedly referred to himself as “100% a cannibal, that he has “cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm,” and that he wants to eat the woman.
This woman claimed that she was involved with Hammer from 2016 to 2020, even though at the time, he was still married to Elizabeth Chambers, his partner of 10 years.
Soon, more screenshots surfaced from other women claiming to have also had a conversation in the same cannibalistic theme with Hammer. One text read, “I need to drink your blood, I crave it,” while another went, “I need to eat your entire body. I need to touch every part of you, inside and out. I want to bite pieces off of you.” Needless to say, these went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The Instagram account also posted other stories showing the actor’s alleged affinity with aggressive sexual fetishes and even having sex slaves. In one message, Hammer allegedly said that the woman he’s talking with was “on one side of the slave spectrum,” while he was “on the other side of the master spectrum. In another message, he allegedly sent the message: “I will own you. That’s my soul. My brain. My spirit. My body. Would you come to be my property til you die?”
Though the Instagram account claims that the screenshots were real and came from women whom the actor had flings with, to date, none of the screenshots have been verified. The randomness of it all has also led some social media users to believe that the screenshots are fake.
What did Hammer have to say?
Hammer himself has denied the legitimacy of these allegations.
The backlash, however, was very real. The fact that he is also embroiled in an intense and highly contentious custody dispute with Chambers only served as tinder to the wildfire. As a result, Hammer had to step away from shooting his upcoming rom-com movie with Jennifer Lopez, Shotgun Wedding.
“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.” He said in a statement reported by TMZ, Variety, and Deadline.
Having said that, maybe there’s more fruit to be had not in jeering at Hammer’s fantasies with the human flesh, but in inspecting the nuanced question of consent in these screenshots, which sounded more predatory than kinky.
In a scrutiny by Rolling Stone, it is revealed that among kink communities, the intensity of the sexual activity can be somewhat directly proportional to the need to acquire consent and negotiate dynamics. The more forceful the fetish, the better the boundaries should be built. Since the screenshots are not confirmed, an explicit expression of consent is questionable — regardless, the other person in these conversation cannot sound any more uncomfortable.
In short, whether or not these stories are real, this is clearly NOT how fulfill your deepest fantasies.
