“Looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in,” Tatum teased on Twitter.
Channing Tatum is back to bare it all as he steps back into (and strips off) the shoes of Mike Line for Magic Mike: Last Dance, the third film in the sensual Magic Mike stripper saga.
Tatum teased the next installment over on Twitter on Tuesday by posting a photo of the script.
Not much else was revealed, save for the fact that Steven Soderbergh is stepping back as the director after having directed the first film in 2012. Reid Carolin, who penned the first two movies, is also returning to write the trilogy’s final chapter.
Magic Mike XXL director Gregory Jacobs is also onboard as a producer alongside Carolin, Nick Wechsler, and Peter Kiernan. The film won’t be premiering in theaters but instead will head straight to HBO Max.
In a statement to Variety, Tatum shared his excitement over revisiting the raunchy Lane role and busting the “stripperverse” wide open: “There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of ‘Magic Mike’ with Steven, Greg, Reid and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same.”
At this point, it is still uncertain whether Matt Bomer, Matthew McConaughey, and Joe Manganiello and their respective abs will appear in the film, but anyone can dream.
Magic Mike: Last Dance succeeds 2015’s Magic Mike: XXL and 2012’s Magic Mike, both of which are loosely based on Tatum’s experiences as an up-and-coming stripper in Florida before finding success in Hollywood. His both literal and figurative grinding would nonetheless turn out to be a global hit, with the first two films grossing nearly $300 million worldwide and even spawning a live stage show.
It has also inspired HBO Max’s latest reality competition series, “Finding Magic Mike,” which is due to premiere this December 16. The series will follow the story of 10 hunks who have ‘lost their magic’ and compete for a cash prize as well as the chance to perform on the Magic Mike Live stage in Las Vegas.
Magic Mike: Last Dance is expected to enter pre-production soon so no release date has yet been shared.
