Back in January, local Youtuber and model Ivana Alawi let her millions of followers know that she had just made her first big-girl purchase — a diamond ring.
She posted the news on her YouTube channel in a birthday vlog, where she shared that it was the largest piece of jewelry that she ever owned.
“It’s just a symbol to love myself. Parang gift ko talaga siya sa sarili ko,” she explained. “I’m so proud kasi it’s a reminder to work hard for your dreams, kasi dati pangarap ko lang talaga ‘to eh tapos diba naging sakin na siya. It’s just a dream come true.”
(It’s just a symbol to love myself. It’s like a gift to myself. I’m so proud because it’s a reminder to work hard for your dreams, because this was only a dream to me before and now it’s become mine. It’s just a dream come true)
The 8-karat ring, which features a huge diamond center and smaller diamonds set in a gold band, was designed by Drake Dustin Ibay of Lvna by Drake Dustin. He shared that it cost around 12 million pesos.
“It was especially [made] for the shoot,” he explained to Pep.PH, going on to say that he named the ring after Alawi as she was the endorser for the brand at the time. Though, he detailed that the ring was not up for grabs.
“Hindi yun for sale, e,” Dustin said. “Tapos sabi niya parang gusto niya bilhin iyon. So, nung time na sinabi niya na gusto niyang bilhin, ‘Sige, I think it’s meant for you. I’m gonna sell it to you’… Binili niya!“
(It wasn’t for sale. But she said that she wanted to buy it. So at the time that she said she wanted to buy it, [I said] ‘Sure, I think it’s meant for you. I’m gonna sell it to you’…She bought it!)
According to Alawi, the ring is an investment that she hopes to pass on down to future generations.
“I will treasure this tapos ‘yung mga anak ko, sila mga makakamana nito,” Alawi added.
(I will treasure this then my kids will be the ones to inherit it)
