Former beauty queens share their own responses to the winning Miss Universe Philippines question

Now that Cebu City has clinched the top two crowns in the national pageant circuit, do you still find yourself in a beauty pageant high? Well, it looks like some of your favorite former beauty queens still can’t shake their enthusiasm over recent events.

In the latest episode of Between Us Queens, a Filipino Spotify original podcast hosted by former queens Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti, and Binibining Pilipinas 2014 candidate Carla Lizardo, they answered their take on the winning question of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo was even a guest in the show.

Before you get too excited, the statuesque beauties did say they answered the question just for fun. They don’t intend of taking Beatrice Gomez’s crown or anything. In the recent pageant, she was asked, “If things happen during your Miss Universe reign that makes you sad and uninspired, how would you continue to inspire others?”

Wurtzbach said she’d look to other people who admire her. “If something makes me sad, or uninspired… during my reign, I would look to the people who find me inspirational because if they see something in me, then I wouldn’t want to be the one to disappoint them,” she explained.

Mateo said she would rather keep it real. “I think power comes with acknowledgment and I like to remind myself that I have weaknesses, and there will be times in which I will feel that I am not good enough,” she answered. “What’s going to be inspirational to other people. I shouldn’t be afraid to show the vulnerable side for them to relate to me, for them to realize that even when I’m a beauty queen I’m still a person. And that gives so much story for them to realize there’s also power in storytelling.”

Guidotti would take a pause. “Whenever I’m feeling uninspired, I try to kind of take a step back, take in the world, and realize that the world is so much bigger than I am and my purpose lies much bigger than within myself,” she said. “And if I am feeling uninspired, I look to the people around me, to inspire me, because I can find inspiration everywhere I look, and I thank you.”

For Lizardo, honesty is key. “In my journey during my Miss Universe reign, it would be inevitable that I would experience sadness and being uninspired,” she relayed. “ And I think I would just have to be honest with myself, and I should be honest to the people around me about how I’m feeling so that they can provide me with advice and inspiration to be able to lift my spirits. And I think that if I share that I’m going through something like this and I was able to recover, then the people around me will also be inspired by how I was able to step back.”

Sounds interesting, right? Well, how would YOU answer the winning question?
