Here’s a heads up for all you hangout spot lovers.
Here’s some great news: Home Buddies founder Frances Lim Cabatuando (aka Mayora) is expanding her online community! Home Buddies Hangouts is an expansion of the Home Buddies Facebook Community.
What is Home Buddies?
Born during the pandemic, Home Buddies is a Facebook community. Its goal was to show Filipinos how they can be comfortable while living and working at home.
The community was a massive success. Excluding India, Home Buddies is the largest Facebook community in the APAC region. The community now has three million online neighbors. It also earned funding from Meta’s Facebook’s 2021 Community Accelerator Program.
Frances Cabatuando hopes to keep the momentum going
Mayora hopes to keep the momentum going with Home Buddies Hangouts.
“Home Buddies has become a go-to source for authentic finds and reviews. We successfully helped Filipinos navigate the pandemic home improvement era. We can also help them through this revenge travel phase. The goal of Home Buddies Hangouts is to inspire better vacations. Its focus is on better accommodations. We believe that the best trip is a well-rested one,” Cabatuando said.
Cabatuando also sees Home Buddies Hangouts as a way to give the local tourism industry a boost. Home Buddies has a huge influence, causing product shortages and trending hashtags. Home Buddies Hangouts aims to replicate that success for travel and hangout spots.
“This idea has been brewing at the back of my mind. I always knew I’d expand to Hangouts because I enjoy traveling and I see the sentiments of people about missing travel. I just needed to find the perfect time, and that time is now,” Cabatuando said.
Launch and continued growth
Home Buddies Hangouts had its soft launch on April 17, 2022. This was when Cabatuando was looking for a venue for her brother’s birthday party. She was lucky to find a secret lake house in Pililia, Rizal that isn’t listed on travel apps yet.
“People see the merit of this little big travel group. In two months, we’re now at twenty thousand members and over three hundred posts. We’ve actually already given out two overnight stays, one in Cavite and one in Quezon City. More to come as we continue to grow!” Cabatuando enthuses.
