On December 9, Google announced the top ten searches for 2021 and revealed what piqued Filipinos’ interests this year. According to the search engine, the majority of the top searches were entertainment-related. This included the NBA, Squid Game, Miss Universe 2021, Pacquiao vs. Ugas, Pagsamo lyrics, and True Beauty. There was a separate list for personalities who topped the searches, and we’re giving you a quick rundown of why they were trending.

Top 10 Most Searched Female Personalities

Yen Santos came under fire from the public for her alleged involvement in the divorce of LJ Reyes and Paolo Contis and was the topmost searched female personality. Miss Universe 2020 Rabiya Mateo, upcoming Fil-Am singers Bella Poarch and Olivia Rodrigo, as well as Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, were some of the most talked-about Filipinas.

Among the most searched male personalities were Kim Seon-ho who gained popularity for his role in the K-drama Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Gerald Anderson for revealing his relationship status with Julia Baretto, and boxer Carlo Paalam for his participation in the Olympics.  On the other hand, Jake Gyllenhaal sparked curiosity on social media after Taylor Swift released a 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” in November.

The #1 Overall Top Trending Searches was “COVID-19 Prevention,” indicating that Filipinos continue to depend on Google to find information.
