Congratulations to Halsey for giving birth to her first child with screenwriter Alev Aydin!
The 26-year-old announced the birth a couple days ago on Instagram, posting a photo of the new family of three. She captioned it, “Gratitude. For the most “rare” and euphoric birth. Powered by love.”
In the black-and-white post, Halsey can be seen cradling her newborn with Aydin by her side. The photoset also included a photo of her nursing the baby.
The child, born on July 14th, was named Ender Ridley Aydin.
Halsey first announced her pregnancy in January by posting a picture of her showing off her baby bump. She wore a rainbow top and captioned the picture, “Surprise!” followed by a number emojis, including a rainbow.
The rainbow alludes to Halsey’s miscarriage five years back. Babies born after pregnancy losses are often referred to as “rainbow babies.”
She talked of the miscarriage on an episode of The Doctors. “Reproductive illness is so frustrating because it can really make you feel less of a woman,” she admitted. “There’s a lot of times when you’re sitting at home and you just feel so terrible about yourself.”
“You’re sick, you don’t feel sexy, you don’t feel proud. You don’t feel like there’s much hope.”
She also revealed that she was fighting against endometriosis, a condition wherein the endometrium, the tissue that lines the inside of a woman’s uterus, grows out of it. This can cause infertility.
Halsey underwent surgery for it in 2017; she posted a photo of her surgery scars on Instagram earlier this year, saying, “The scars that got me this angel.”
The birth of her first child comes a month before the release of her most recent studio album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, an album which Halsey has described as a “concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.”
The Grammy-nominated artist posted the cover art, which featured her pregnant and completely topless, captioning it, “This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!”
The album is expected to drop on August 27.
