Actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis recently revealed with pride that her youngest child is a transgender woman!
In an interview with AARP Magazine, Curtis and her actor-director husband Christopher Guest explained that they “have watched in wonder and pride as [their] son became [their] daughter Ruby.” She also mentioned that there was a wedding in the works, as her daughter and her fiancé are set to tie the knot next year in a wedding she will personally officiate.
Curtis and Guest share two daughters, Annie, 34, and Ruby, 25; both were adopted as infants after the couple struggled with infertility issues. Now, Ruby works as a computer gaming editor while Annie works as a dance instructor.
In the same interview, the 62-year-old star said that her life was in a state of “constant metamorphosis” and that what she used to think about gender and other concepts were just a part of what she’s let go. “I am somebody who sheds every day,” she explained. “Let’s get rid of that, I don’t need that. It’s all about old ideas that don’t work anymore.
Curtis has been a longtime ally of the LBGTQ+ community; in 2017, she took to Twitter to share Huffington Post article titled “Dear Trans Kids. The letter we all wish we had written (from a trans teacher).”
In 2020, she also announced that she would be directing and starring in a Lifetime movie surrounding Sara Cunningham and her organization Free Mom Hugs, which works to encourage the world “to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community through visibility, education, and conversation.”
For Curtis, the choice to support just comes from a place of understanding.
“There is nothing harder than being a child,” she said. “And I am a product of a lot of divorces. Janet married four times, Bob four, and Tony six. It is what it is, but I think, as a result, I have always had a feeling for vulnerable children.”
