Kanye West wants his name legally changed to ‘Ye’

Much to say the least, American rapper and fashion designer Kanye West has always been pretty eclectic. Following his split with model Irina Shayk, it looks like West wants to shake things up by renaming himself to just ‘Ye.’

Yes, you read that right. According to GMA News Online, the 44-year-old star has filed to get rid of his full name, Kanye Omari West, in favor of his longtime nickname. In the filing, he simply stated he has ‘personal reasons’ for the change.

On his part, West had tweeted that he wanted to be called Ye as early as 2018, following the release of his eight studio album ‘Ye.’ “The being formally known as Kanye West,” he wrote, “I am YE.”

As per BBC, Ye is an abbreviation of his current name. Plus, the new moniker has religious significance for him. “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means ‘you,'” West said. “So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”

Well, the star soon known to be simply ‘Ye’ is in the midst of a divorce from Kim Kardashian, who filed the petition in February after almost seven years of marriage. The former power couple agreed on having joint custody over their four young children: North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm.

He already uses ‘Ye’ on his social media accounts. It sounds kind of weird, yes, but it didn’t come as much of a surprise since West is known to be very quirky. On the flip side, it looks like fans will get new music from him real soon. With everything going on in his life, it’s bound to be full of drama.
